More and more families are turning to extracurricular activities in schools, for two main reasons; on the one hand, for the reconciliation of family-work life with school life, since school days do not coincide with parents' work days; and on the other, to provide alternatives to our children of different activities, which can develop other abilities and skills than the subjects curricular.

But you have to distinguish between extracurricular activities and complementary activities.

The complementary activities are those activities that significantly complement the curricular areas established in the Curricular or educational Project of the Center.

- The objectives to be achieved must coincide with the proposed objectives for classrooms.

- The contents that are worked on must be in coherence with those of each area.

- The development of these activities supposes the teacher / tutor presence of the group / classroom, since its development must complement the student.

For example: A health education program, or an encouraging reading or spelling program.

For against the extracurricular activities are those that develop outside school hours. Before the school day, in the lunch period or the end of classes, being the most used at the end of classes.

- They are activities that are not considered essential for the minimum training that students must receive.

- They are characterized by their voluntary nature and free choice.

- They are not part of any evaluation process.

- Its voluntary nature cannot be the motive or means of discrimination any for any member of the educational community.

- These activities must be included in the Annual General Programming, once approved by the School Council that governs the center.

For example: crafts, judo, soccer, volleyball ...

Once the difference Between the two, it is good to ensure that our children do some kind of extracurricular activity. Extracurricular activities usually take place two days a week alternate or Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday.

My pedagogical recommendation is that they carry out two activities. One of them that is sports, sports practice has many positive physical aspects (obvious), but it also has to develop positive emotional aspects such as self-confidence, self-esteem or positive image of oneself.

The other would be an activity that was related either to the performing arts and expression, such as theater, crafts, dance, etc ... or that was related to a cultural theme such as Languages, homework club, library, etc.

And remember that the important thing about doing extracurricular activities is that it improves integral development from the student.
